Vampire Hunter D, The truest form of the Horror Anime. Very often this is one of the three movies people mention seeing when you first talk about anime. The reason for this is this movie gives the viewer everything that they could ask for from a Horror Anime movie. Definitely one of the first anime movies I had ever seen. In deciding to review this anime it brings up the point that Vampire Hunter D 2000 is coming out soon so keep your eyes and ears open for this fantastic sequel to an ageless movie. This is a great work by the Director Toyoo Ashida. Great animation and non-stop nail biting twists keep this anime moving along at a horrifying pace. Keeping with anime traditions of mysterious heroes this anime fits the bill easily. Sure to become a favorite to anyone that sees it this is a good first time anime to satisfy anyone who enjoys horror, mystery, dark monsters and vampires. by immortal vampire aristocrats. Doris Lang, a young rancher, has gone and gotten herself bitten by Count Magnus Lee, the local vampire lord. He holds the villagers at bay with his hoards of monsters and his devilish henchmen with amazing abilities. Doris encounters D a mysterious Vampire Hunter with a pension for saying very little almost all the time, he is the strong silent type and he is not even moved by Doris’s attempt to offer her services to D, housing weapons and her body all are offered to D to coerce him into helping her rid herself of the dreaded curse of Magnus Lee. Also to free the village of the black shadow that has fallen on this cursed town. D has got it all for a hero, he’s got catch phrases, he’s got Doris’s little brother Dan worshiping the ground D walks on and last but not least he has a talking hand with a horrible sense of humor. D is a suspicious character and the villagers don’t really trust him but he does prove himself time after time in battle. The fight scenes in this movie are fantastic and non stop. The enemies hideous, just like they should be. The plot progress’s with fight after fight as D takes on henchmen after henchman finally getting to Magnus himself. The final conflict in this movie is one of the most intense scenes of abuse a character can take. Ending in an intense standoff with a crucial twist that vampire loves will enjoy. Wicked plot twists and horrific amounts of blood and violence fulfill this movies attempt to draw you into the dark intensity that is Vampire Hunter D. This is a good first time anime movie I will say again. The characters are created before your eyes and still manage to surprise you time and time again. There are many twists in this movie where you wonder if D really is what he seems. He’s got a talking hand that eats things? What more do you need to know about a character before you get drawn in? This is a must see anime. One that you will watch over and over. Vampire Hunter D offers up all you need to be addicted to the anime genre.
