Wicked City Review

There is nothing to fear but fear itself. In Wicked City also known as Supernatural Beast City you learn to fear everything.  This is a non stop horror thriller that bends every perception of an anime horror. Wicked villains, lucky heroes and conspiracies darker than the blackest night. Directed by Yshiyaki Kawajiri and adapted from the novel  by Hideyuki Kikuchi. The OAV is based on the first of three novels. This movie is an intense experience, that set a standard in Anime that has been matched by few movies in the horror anime genre

Taki Renziboro is your typical young man, he likes good suits and fast cars. He is given an easy assignment deliver an crazy,  senile and delusional old Mr. Miart in 24 hours to peace negotiations so the world can live in peace and harmony. Only problem is Taki is a BlackGuard a secret institution devoted to protecting the world from the dark forces of the BlackWorld. The evil dark power that constantly attempts to spill out into our reality and destroy everything humanity hold sacred. This will be the worst night of Taki’s life. At his side is Maki a dark and sultry woman who holds more keys than even she knows. The main problem with the assignment is that the old man Miart does not want to be corralled by Taki in any way. All he wants to do is hit the hot bars and enjoy himself. So you got 2 BlackGuards a crazy old psychic and an army of super natural super psychic monsters bent at nothing more than killing everything in their path and making sure that Taki does not finish this mission. In this world things are popping out of the shadows and dismembering innocents left and right. The DarkWorld has come again and it comes with a vengeance.

The impact that this movie causes is mostly from the intense evil that is portrayed in the monsters and the villains. The art is sharp and clean reminiscent of Ninja Scroll. The villains take a psychotic style rather similar to Bio Hunter or Peacock King. The action is intense and vivid, building to a boiling point of insanity.  This is a good movie for anyone that enjoyed Vampire Hunter D and Genocyber  I really enjoyed the visual intensity of this movie and I am sure any real Otaku’s would.
